The Higher Institute of Ancient Near Eastern Civilizations was established by Presidential Decree No. (271) of 1988 as an institute specializing in archeology and civilization, based on the specialized scholars at Zagazig University that it had formed since 1975.
This is why the institute has become unique in the Middle East and the surrounding region, as well as at the international level, which is one of the unique aspects of Zagazig University and its cultural interest as a result of the existence of the institute in relation to two aspects, the first of which is as an institute that works for the antiquities and civilization of the East Delta region in particular, and the second is its sponsorship of archaeological and cultural work and advancement. Interested in the civilizations of the ancient Near East in general.
For this reason, the Institute has become a center for the largest scientific brotherhood between scholars of this specialty and its sciences. For a long time, scholars of the specialty have met at Zagazig University in their international conferences and various meetings, which came as a result of their choosing the Institute’s headquarters as an international center for the international organization: the Union of Civilizations of the Ancient Near East, which works to advance the concepts of And the sciences of these disciplines through its studies and international activity.
Since the establishment of the institute, the university has been keen to pay attention to its important role within the university in relation to its scholars and students, the work of its archaeological excavation mission in Egyptian antiquities, its distinguished museum among Egyptian universities, its studies, and its library, until this last and important breakthrough came which was undertaken by His Excellency Professor Dr. Khaled Al-Dirndali, President of the University. Towards the Institute is an expression of His Excellency’s great contribution since he was Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, which had a great impact on the Institute’s mission.
